- Create your own framework of CRT.
After reading the article: A Framework for Culturally Responsive Teaching, I felt shocked about the variations of " the carrot and the stick" still lurked in the modern instructions. And the content also helps me to clarify the intrinsic and extrinsic motivations further.
I would like to set my framework of CRT through below steps:
1. Make connections: encourage students to introduce their ancestors or traditions by poster or presentation, and invite other students to image the counterpart of their own.
2. Appreciate the accomplishment: acknowledge the inventions, arts from diverse people through decorations in class or bell ringer activities, like book-reading, folksong-playing in the different language, film-watching.
3. Design curriculum embedded international holiday ideas in multidisciplinary: lead students recognize different custom, background, and concept behind the holiday to expand the students' view through well-designed curricula.
4. Apply jigsaw approach: have students experience small group discussion and collaborate with diverse peers to extend their view toward different people.
5. Visit the students' family yearly: reach out to diverse families and communities to build strong bonds and understand their advantage/ disadvantage. Offer some resource to families if needed.
6. Create an international network: set Mystery Skype in the classroom and work out the fixed time for students to communicate with diverse people out of the wall.
The methods above are based on the theories:
1. Students feel comfortable and safe in the learning environment.
2. Teacher applies multi-intelligence theory to stimulate their cognition learning, creativities and values inquire.
3. Students develop intrinsic motivation gradually and willingly explore this world by themselves.
4. Employ the student-central instructions and utilize the experience in authentic life.
